About Pierr
"My first experience with painting was when I got into my dad's paint box and created a portrait of a miniature doll. I used the oils as if I knew exactly what I was doing - it was the most wonderful feeling. I was nine years old. My father would be thrilled to see what I'm doing now.
My formal art education began at age 32 at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where I studied under the instruction of many internationally known designers, illustrators, and painters. The world opened up for me. The first two years I declared myself an illustration major then switched to painting during the third year. I wanted to learn everything. I graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting, awarded with Distinction. The last twenty years I have designed a full career as a children's book illustrator. To date I have eighteen published titles, one of which I authored.
I live and work in my small studio home devoting more and more time to oil painting. I still feel surrounded by magical forces as I did when I was a kid - there is so much peace and beauty to be seen - in nature and very simple things, like a bottle or a vase. I love containers as metaphor for being open. And being a lover of story, as well, it brings me great pleasure as I work, to think of each painting as a mini drama, from which I strive to capture in stillness a particularly meaningful moment. I hope it pleases you to view these moments."
